What Are Quilters Blogging About Today?

I have hidden some toys in amongst the logs for this weeks mid week Log Cabin retreat.

I wonder how many toys are being wrapped up each day at the moment.

At a Christmas lunch a few days ago the man next to me found a tiny little spinning top in a Christmas cracker. I had to test it out, and it worked beautifully. It just kept spinning, but it was way too small for a small child to be allowed to play with it, but it kept me and the gentleman amused for a few ...

Notice the way the Wedding Ring blocks have rounded out the fan blocks … very interesting.

In the second design I love the tips of the fan blocks showing around the edge, caused by all the blocks being on point.

It would be interesting to see some of my virtual quilt designs as part of the tiled floor of a very large hallway, or perhaps made up as a floor mat … or carpet tiles.

Very delicate. Quilts of this sort of colouring on a bed should have a bit sign in the room saying

DO NOT SIT ON THE BED. The blocks in this project file came from the Electric Quilt Block Library, but some of them got changed a little.

I like both of these designs.

The blocks were chosen for the Elevenses projects, but I decided it was time for change.

Quilting became popular in Australia in the 1980s, and so many groups in cities, suburbs and in country areas are celebrating 40th anniversaries in the next few years, and I know of one state group is calling for red and white quilts for their anniversary, and a small country group is thinking about it, so I have joined the celebrations by giving project files a make over. Different , and I love it.

The big question is … how would you quilt the outer blocks in the second design? Something very simple, or something very busy …. or something in between. I do think I would use matching thread.

The colouring and design are both dainty and pretty. I like the mixture of pieced, applique and quilted versions of diamond shapes.

I tried to pick a favourite, and the deciding factor was the size of the finished quilt … the second one would be big enough for our bed, but I could always make the blocks in the first one bigger, so it didn’t really help with the decision.

So, so pretty!

I think I write that every time I open this project file to share a couple of designs!

I love the second design!

I think I would call this a modern quilt design.

I have just watched a video about the conflict between traditional and modern quilters. I saw modern quilts which would look great on a wall, but would not look great on a bed, while most traditional quilts would look great on a bed where they keep people warm. Overall I am attracted to any quilted item with good use of colour and contrast, and some I would like on a wall, others on a bed. I would like to think that the design above, and most in this project file ...

Another interesting design. This project file has lots of interesting designs waiting for their day on the blog, and I like all of them.

I love the first design today.

Second design is interesting, though the colours could do with a change.

The fabrics I used in this project file are based on reproduction fabrics, which of course were fabrics based on fabrics used in historical quilts. The pieced blocks are ones I had sketched on graph paper long before I got Electric Quilt 5. The applique blocks include some based on EQ Block Library designs, with a few modifications.

I like the first design, but the second design is my favourite today.

One of my favourite project files, and probably my most modern colour combination, but still grounded by tradition influences.

Very interesting, though not a lot of room for the quilting to attract a lot of attention.

Love the first design, though the colours may not look like autumn colours to many of you around the world, but here in Australia our autumn colours are usually dusty, unless we get some early rain.

The blue in the second design isn’t from any flowers, it is the clear skies when we are hoping for that opening rain.

Very interesting applique designs create a very interesting quilt design mixed with pieced blocks.
